Professor Jonathan Manton
The University of Melbourne

This talk will endeavour to explain some of the tools and techniques in "systems engineering" which could be brought to bear on the challenging problem of understanding how (biological) neuronal networks work. The tenet is that the real challenge lies in integrating across scales the different models that have been developed for neuronal networks.

An understanding of these linkages across the different scales of neuronal processing could have a significant impact upon our understanding of many cognitive functions as well as neurological conditions as diverse as epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.
